Cub Scouts visit Rock Ridge Alpacas

Breaking News....This roving reporter had to take some time off the other day. My female cria was born on 6/8/2005. My little girl was born unassisted. She is cocoa brown and weighed in at 22 pounds. Take a look at her picture on the right...My little girl

On Friday, May 6th Cub Scout Pack 240 visited Rock Ridge to learn about the wonders of alpacas. They learned about fiber and crimp and how it is spun into yarn and then made into soft , warm clothing. They met the alpacas and fed them grain by hand, and felt their lovely fiber. The boys and their parents were very inquisitive and asked many questions. They look forward to coming back to see the crias when they come next month.

Rock Ridge has entered many Fleece and Spin-Off competitions in the last 2 years with great success. This past April was our first road trip, traveling with 4 weanlings to the 2005 MAPACA show. In very stiff competition, Gentle Whisper received her first ribbon, placing 6th in a class of 13. Mike Safely commented on her fleece having "brilliance and lots of crimp"! Jupiter Rising also place 6th in the Fleece Competition in the Fawn Class.

Special thanks to Glenn Berns and Lee of Sugar Creek Farm and Georgia Mt. Mill for shearing us all with such skill and caring!! Boy, we feel better! Also thanks to our great neighbor Melissa!
